About Sabahar
Sabahar is a woman-led Ethiopian fair trade company committed to preserving ancient weaving and spinning traditions while improving lives. For over two decades, Sabahar has been designing and producing beautiful, natural textile products made from hand-spun cotton, silk, and linen with handmade precision.
How the products are made
Each piece begins with locally sourced natural materials that are carefully spun, dyed with eco-friendly dyes, and then woven on traditional wooden looms in Addis Ababa. The entire process is carried out by hand, from the first thread to the final finish, ensuring quality and authenticity.
Social impact
As a certified member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), Sabahar provides reliable employment and fair wages to over a hundred artisans and their families. Women play a central role within the company. Approximately sixty percent of management is female and gender equality is firmly anchored in the organizational culture.
Environmental impact
Sabahar strives for production that is in harmony with nature. Their workshop is largely energy-neutral thanks to solar panels, biogas installations, and rainwater harvesting. More than eighty percent of the raw materials come from Ethiopia and consist of completely natural, biodegradable fibers.
